On its foundation rest the cornerstones of freedom\, democracy\, and sustainable human development.” – Kofi Annan \nOur 2017 National Week of Action Demands \nDSC members and allies call on the federal government\, states\, districts\, and schools to: \n\nShift funding from school police to counselors\, peace builders\, and positive discipline.\nFund and use transformative and restorative justice\, mediation\, and positive interventions.\nStop arresting and pushing out students of color\, LGBTQ youth\, students that are homeless\,\nand students with disabilities at higher rates. *Black students are pushed out at the highest\nrates nationally.)\nMake sure states and districts focus on school climate under the new federal law —\nthe Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)\nEnd paddling and physical punishment in all schools.\nInvest in public education\, not privatization and charter schools.\n\n
